Zero homeless

A few words copied from the reader comments of a specialized news Blog, one which may be characterized as a cross between economics news, and a scandal tabloid. The news topic discussed was the economics of the homeless problem in California. The substance of the report's argument is pretty much what might be expected, both the editorial, and the readers' comments. Briefly, the outlook is bleak, both for the homeless, as well as everyone concerned. Nobody is not concerned if, at the same time, nobody really knows what to do about it. I'm not so vain as to believe art can do anything to alleviate the distress of the homeless. My concern is focusing more and more on those concerned about homelessness. It seems to me they might prove responsive.

Anyone who up voted any of my comments in this thread should be pilloried, but is free to use them in their PHD theses.

Can someone that knows anything about this explain to me why they can’t build a huge square empty building somewhere and put a whole bunch of cots that  side by side like a old military barracks. Have showers available and doctors that can get them off drugs. Why are they spending 800k for one person.

This is an easy one to figure out.  Not the homeless part, but the push to finance it.  Homelessness has turned into a business.  All those 'caring' officials are making a ton of cash from bilking the public using new tax initiatives to "solve the homeless problem".  Dumping more money on this issue have never solved anything or even improved the situation.  It has allowed officials connected with this scam to afford a larger house... away from the homeless...

Much like cancer research. It will never end. Just needs more of your cash.

I lived in California in a tourist location that had a lot of homeless and, like it or not, if you want to hang out at the beach, the boardwalk and other trendy locations then you are going to come into contact with the homeless.  I can tell you that most of the ones living at or near the beach are just people that want to party.

It is a strange dichotomy.  You can sit in your $3200/mo studio apartment and just on the other side of the wall are people living in a tent and for free.  They party non stop and everything is given to them for free by charitable organizations.  Free food, free clothes, free trips to the laundry mat, free healthcare, etc.  You have to work like a fiend just to barely scrape by and these guys just party.

You can block the sidewalk with your tent but if I don't pay to park my car then I can absolutely expect a ticket.  If I go and sit on the sand and pop open a beer, the police will be all over me in seconds but if I'm homeless then I can shoot smack into my groin in front of school children and nothing will happen.

I had to buy my groceries and booze but the homeless can steal with absolute impunity.  Just walk on in to any store and just walk on out with whatever you wish.  No one can stop you.  The security guards can not lay a finger on you.

These programs to help the poor are really just welfare programs for diversity hires and money laundering.

Knowing someone very VERY well who runs the homeless management program for LA County, I can tell you most of these people are not about ‘party’, so you mis-characterize the problem, and do not understand the difficulties. Many of the unfortunates are drug addicts, starting early life as regular kids that fell prey to the drug pushers. I personally know the feeling of loss and despair losing one’s child to drugs. Trust me, I know. Still others of the homeless population are mentally ill. Others have become homeless through misfortune. Its a problem that is being addressed, but it is a difficult process.

This entire line of conversation about homelessness is a massive redirection of the fact that the US is clearly in a depression.  We've heard it all by now; fentanyl and immigration and greedy landlords and that one time when Reagan shut down all the mental hospitals and how so much money is being invented to pay the government to "fix the homeless problem" -- can we just cut to the chase? Look around: Cleveland, Chicago, Detroit, Philadelphia, Cincinnati, Baltimore, St. Louis, most of California, etcetera and etcetera. It's a Great Depression. Just say it.

Put homeless on buses to Washington DC.

Homelessness is a clear indication of White rage.

The anger must stop, so these people can find adequate shelter.

Socialist pigs, criminal illegal immigrants, onerous government regulations, communist lockdowns, scummy real estate "investors", black bloc satanists, Hollywood pedophiles.

This is the New Old California.

The number of homeless is much higher in LA County than the city estimates.   It was probably over 50,000 before the economic shutdown. Probably closer to 250,000 right now.   It is that bad.

You better get out the Jergens. All that hand-wringing is going to rub you raw if you don't hydrate your skin.

I seem to remember we called them Bums in the longago.

Today I gave an iPhone and $500 to a homeless guy.
You will never know the happiness I felt when he put his gun away.

We the people payed in Los Angeles billions in bonds years ago, to build housing unites for the homeless. However, corrupt local politicians like “Mayors, City Council Members” take the money and give it to expensive contractors to build over $800,000 + per unit for homeless.

"And at a cost of $837,000 per housing unit it will cost roughly $33.5 billion."

Very few in LA are just people economically challenged. Most are on drugs/and/or mentally ill.  We don't call them "homeless" anymore. The new term is "unhoused" as if their main problem was not having a roof over their head. This will never be solved with this approach.

Do one on the divorce industrial complex, .. you know where men get raped but cameras aren't allowed.  The 'family' court that pushes them into homelessness. Men comprise more than 90% of the homeless, but saying that is just plain sexist.  7 out of 10 suicides are men.

Men do more than 99% of the most dangerous & physical jobs and yet females collect more disability payments from uncle cracker. Go look for that statistic. You won't find disability payments broken down by gender. They don't want you to know they have been buying off the womb-man with funny munnie.. and have been doing so for the last 60 years..

You attack your enemy at the weakest point. This is about divide & conquer..  They also won't tell you that men & boys suffer from domestic violence at the same or greater rates than womb-men do; and yet there are no domestic violence shelters for men.. none..

I've never been to Cali and always wanted to visit but witnessing the implosion by leftists, I think I'll pass.

It is a beautiful state.

City of LA is an unlivable hell hole. Suburbs are still pretty nice.
